Carter Design provided the full Structural and Civil Engineering design for the learning and skills centre at the Theatre Royal, Norwich.

Located on the site of a former chapel, and immediately adjacent to the Chapelfield Shopping Centre, the foundation design required careful consideration of the former basement, along with the presence of ground anchors supporting the deep basement walls to the Shopping Centre.  Our team developed a unique solution alongside our specialist piling contractor G M Piling utilising a combination of pre-boring, probing and engineered ‘capping beam’ supporting the main building frontage across a sacrificial line of piles to ensure that the existing anchors were not disturbed.
